The hlilarious Donovan McNabb Comedy Show continued during Monday's OTAs at the NovaCare Complex. Instead of directly answering questions about how his shoulder felt, after another workout with minimal passing work, Number Five spoke about the NBA Finals and New York Giants defensive end Michael Strahan's retirement. As usual, McNabb was funny and engaging. And, as usual, he left plenty of room for speculation.

All of this was supposed to be behind us. Last week, after creating a stir by limiting his throwing, McNabb had a full practice, during which he tossed it all over the yard. Later, he took batting practice with the Phillies. If he was nursing something serious, he had an odd way of doing it. The issue appeared to be closed.

Until Monday, that is. If McNabb were a wily veteran, instead of a passer still in his prime (albeit the later stages of it), the cutback on reps would make sense. For those of you who don't know, it was pretty darn hot Monday afternoon, and the elderly were advised to stay inside. But McNabb isn't in a rocking chair. He's supposed to be leading the first-team offense. When Kevin Kolb is taking snaps with the varsity, something's up.

   Here are the options:

   1. McNabb is fine. His arm is a little sore from overuse during his extensive training regimen, and he is just exercising a little long-term caution.

   2. His arm is hurt, and there is real reason for concern.

   3. The Eagles are trying to trade McNabb to the QB-poor Bears, and by "faking" a bad arm, he gives Kolb the chance to work with the first team, in preparation for the '08 season.

Okay, so number three is a bit ridiculous. Option Two seems plausible, but how do you explain McNabb's ability to do so much last week? For now, we'll go with Door Number One. McNabb has never had shoulder problems before, so this could just be some soreness caused by overwork or (gulp!) age. But if we hit late July, and he's sitting out a bulk of the first-team work, then it's back to the other theories.

And perhaps back to the drawing board for the Eagles.
